On June 1, 2021, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office officially opened for business. The organization’s job is to look into crimes involving fraud, corruption, money laundering, and VAT fraud that impact the EU budget and bring charges against those responsible.
The association has 22 member states as of right now. Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Ireland, and Denmark are the other five.
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office discovered the largest VAT fraud in the history of the EU eighteen months after receiving the initial report. Additionally, Hungary is complicit in the alleged “carousel fraud.”
