A volunteer is a person who by choice, consciously performs activities for the benefit of others without material consideration or payment. There is strong sense of solidarity in the act of volunteering, which also has a positive effect on the health of the volunteer.
Voluntary work, in itself, is good and valuable. It is a way of empowering members of society to take an active role in both geographically wider and narrower communities. It is beneficial for those in need of support and for those doing volunteer work, as well.
Volunteering is a fundamental value that is part of community care, a charitable act of social solidarity, for the development of humanity. Civic commitment can be expressed through volunteering: the social “rehabilitation” of responsibility for all in need of assistance. Volunteering is a human resource that contributes to the moral, social and cultural development of our society and to the strengthening of the economy, which is measurable in national income.
Voluntary work also affects a person’s satisfaction with life, since the purposeful state of mind experienced during volunteering satisfies basic psychological needs, and thus, contributes to the development of a favorable self and world view.
