The second half of August is favorable for ticks, as the bloodsuckers do not like the scorching sun, but they tolerate the increasingly common temperature fluctuations and high humidity especially well.
The parasite can cause encephalitis, meningitis, and in some cases lymphadenitis in humans, so prevention is of primary importance, especially for forest trips.
It is advised to apply anti-tick spray and wear light-colored clothing when taking walks and hikes through the forest. We can choose lavender, mint, or lemongrass oil from the natural remedies, but we can also ask for an encephalitis vaccine. It is wise to take precautions in advance because ticks are likely to be present up to the late autumn frosts.
In our application, we asked our users how they protect themselves against ticks.
50% of the respondents thoroughly check their bodies after hiking in the forest, and 39% regularly use anti-tick spray.
