One of the most well-known cartoon series in the world, Peppa Pig, featured a same-sex couple for the first time. Peppa Pig is one of the world’s best-known cartoon animals, it can be seen in one hundred and eighty countries in forty languages. Unsurprisingly, the introduction of the show’s first same-sex couple caused quite a stir.
In the 18-year history of the cartoon, this is the first time an LGBTQ+ couple has been featured. The main character Peppa also met Penny’s two mothers, who are polar bears. In the story, Penny adds, “I live with my mom and my other mom.” The conversation also revealed that Penny’s “other mom” often makes spaghetti and that Penny’s mom is a doctor. Peppa Pig is hardly the only recent fairy tale that embraces diversity more openly. The first autistic character from Thomas the Tank Engine, Bruno the brake vehicle, recently made an appearance as well.
