Memory is the ability of an organization to store, preserve, and retrieve information and experiences. Recollection is a psychic phenomenon that often occurs and has a strong emotional impact.
During the retrieval of information, that is, during recollection, we re-construct previous events; this is called reconstruction. Researchers currently believe that memory is a complex process involving many areas of the brain.
Feelings of nostalgia differ from any other memory as they are always self-relevant, meaning they can only be about things that personally affect the person experiencing that feeling.
But why is it good to be nostalgic?
According to the research results of a university in Southampton, nostalgia has a mood-enhancing effect. People prone to nostalgia can deal better with understandably negative emotions about death, better tolerate criticism, and are less narcissistic.
In our research, we were curious about how much our respondents consider themselves to be nostalgic.
