Jobbik’s parliamentary representative János Bencze put forth a draught that would make Christmas Eve, December 24, a public holiday as well. He made the case that the government of a nation that calls itself a “Christian nation” ought to consider the reasonable request of families to spend not just two, but three days together during Christmas.
There are however many who are opposed to the plan and think that if the stores were closed for an extra day during the Christmas season, there would be less commercial traffic. The number of domestic guest nights may even rise if December 24 is also a public holiday because more and more people are staying in hotels over the holidays. In a Pulzus study, we asked users if they would support declaring December 24 a federal holiday.
The vast majority of responders, 69%, strongly support this plan, while another 18% would rather not. Only 5-5% of respondents said they would prefer not to or would not think it was good at all if there were one more Christmas holiday. 3% of users chose not to respond.
Do you feel that December 24 ought to be a holiday?
