At the moment, exceptionally high fuel prices are characteristic of most member states of the European Union. It is not uncommon for gasoline to cost HUF 750 and diesel prices to be HUF 1000 per liter, converted at the current exchange rate.
Some countries are trying to combat fuel prices by reducing taxes. The fuel price stop is still in force in Hungary, so the price of diesel and gasoline cannot exceed HUF 480 per liter.
Regulating fuel prices in Hungary and tax cuts in other countries have increased fuel consumption, exacerbating air pollution and the climate crisis.
Due to increased fuel consumption and in the spirit of climate protection, more and more European countries are trying to encourage people to use public transport by making travel free. However, reducing car traffic is not a success everywhere.
In te Pulzus app, we asked our users if they would give up using cars if public transport became free.
65% of respondents would put their car down and use public transport instead if this form of transport became free of charge.
Would you be willing to give up your car if you could travel on public transport for free?
