The contribution to the costs of raising children, also known as family allowance, has existed since 1912 in Hungary. Before 1990, the payment of this form of support was linked to employment, but after this date it became easily accessible to all members of society as a benefit.
The calculation of child benefit takes into account the number of children, and various disadvantaged family situations such as single parenthood, and disability or long-term illness affecting the child.
The amount of the aid has not changed since 2008, and its value has been steadily decreasing due to inflation over the years. The situation is even worse compared to real gross earnings or the minimum wage.
In our research, we asked the users of the Pulzus app if, in their opinion, it is time to increase the amount of family allowance in Hungary.
88% of respondents said it would be necessary to increase the allowance.
