Fewer and fewer people buy and read books – A survey by Pulzus

Over the past 15 years, the rate of book-reading adults in Hungary has fallen significantly. According to one study, more than half of the adult population scarcely, or never buys a book.

The research also revealed that more than half of the adult population in Hungary never or almost never buys books, while a quarter of the population only does so a few times per year. On average, book buyers spent 12,661 forints on books in the previous month.

Most people who never buy books said they simply do not like to read, and the second most frequently mentioned reason was lack of time to read.

In the Pulzus application, we asked how often users of the app buy books?

37% of the respondents buy books occasionally, 26% very rarely, and 16% do not buy books at all.
