The word tattoo comes from the Polynesian word ‘tatau’, which means ‘to mark’. Archaeological research and excavations suggest that the art of tattooing has been practiced all over the world since prehistoric times, originating in tribal culture. The first evidence of tattooing dates back to about 12,000 years ago. It has been proven that the people of 10,000 B.C. used needles carved from thin bones to “prick” themselves.
However, it had to take many years for tattooing to grow into an accepted phenomenon. Today it is a creative mean of self-expression used by millions to display their individuality.
Research conducted among users of the Pulzus application reveals how much our users consider tattoos to be an art form.
Only 35% of respondents recognize it as a universal art form, while 33% only see subjective self-expression in a pattern sewn on skin.
