According to a new German study, people who share a bed with their partner have a much better sleep experience.
With subjects co-sleeping, the phase of so-called rapid eye movement (REM) increased and was more continuous than with those, who slept alone. In this phase of sleep, brain activity is similar to that of wakefulness or slumber, while eyes make rapid sideways movements, but other muscles remain still. This is the period of sleep when dreams tend to emerge.
Sleeping with a partner also seems to correlate with many characteristics indicating mental health. Based on research, they concluded that sleeping with a partner can have beneficial affects on memory, and problem solving.
