World population is growing constantly, but the good news os that the number of smokers is decreasing.
Worldwide, now only 36.7 percent of men and 7.8 percent of women use tobacco products. Tobacco consumption includes smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipes, as well as snuffing, and chewing tobacco leaves. 90% of smokers smoke cigarettes.
Nearly seven million people die each year as a result of smoking, and another 1.2 million non-smokers who die from passive smoke inhalation of active smokers.
According to the WHO, despite population growth, the number of people who consume tobacco products between the ages of 15 and 24 is steadily declining.
Between 2000 and 2020, the proportion of smokers in this age group fell from 20.8% to 14.2%.
